This chapter covers the necessary basic knowledge of three-dimensional and two-dimensional curvilinear media. Tangent space, covariant derivation of tensors, strain tensor, tangent modulus tensor, curvature tensor, fundamental forms of a surface and curvilinear three-dimensional elasticity problems are briefly introduced. This knowledge is necessary for understanding the following chapters.
