Pharmacotherapy of Microbial Diseases

Microbial diseases comprise a significant portion of the global disease burden. Starting from moderate flulike condition to serious life-threatening conditions can be resulted due to microbial infection. Very evidently so it is a great matter of interest for the pharmaceutical scientists. Microbial diseases involve a large number of drugs as depending upon the nature of disease and the causative organisms. The drugs which target the microbes vary largely in chemical structure, mechanism of action, spectrum of activity, or specificity toward specific microorganisms. This chapter will build a strong foundation of the basic biomolecular mechanism followed by drugs to counter the microbial diseases as well as the pathway by which the microbes cause diseases in body.
