Drugs Affecting Gastrointestinal Functions
摘要
The digestive system in humans is the mechanism that the body uses to carry out digestion. Food is ingested by the digestive system, which is intended to break it down both physically and enzymatically. The breakdown products are subsequently absorbed and sent to the liver. One of the major areas of exposure to the external environment is the gastrointestinal system. The gut barrier refers to the gastrointestinal tract's ability to monitor and protect the host's interior from outside invaders. Following damage from a variety of sources, such as oxidative stress and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication usage, disruptions in the gut barrier occur that involve processes. Furthermore, the chapter’s focus is on the developing concept that gastrointestinal dysfunction contributes to gastrointestinal disease. For this reason, it is critical to understand the pathophysiology of the many digestive diseases, including gastric ulcers, chronic constipation, gastroesophageal reflux diseases, gallstones, and diarrhoea, as well as the role that medications play in gastrointestinal functions.
