Drugs Acting on Central Nervous System

摘要

Central nervous system is the part of the body which is responsible for accepting, processing, and creating response against the external stimuli or the sensory information. Brains and spinal cord create the machinery which plays the biggest role in maintaining and coordinating balance between the outer world and the living body. These responses are spontaneous, fast, and well-coordinated. Acceptance of stimuli and creating a message out of it and thereby responding to the stimuli involve many ion channels and chemical messengers, here especially neurotransmitters play a big role in creating an integrated cell-to-cell communication. So, diseases which affect the central nervous system need medications which largely target either some ion channels or neurotransmitters. Here, in this chapter we have covered the mechanistic approaches of designing therapy with drugs acting on CNS.
