Analysis and Discussion of the Nordic Peace

  • Gunnar Rekvig

摘要

This chapter examines the transformation of the Nordic region from a history of conflict to a model of peace, highlighting the shift towards peaceful conflict resolution post-1814. The analysis focuses on the principles of neutrality, self-determination, territorial integrity, and institutional integration, which have guided the Nordic countries away from violent resolutions towards diplomatic and peaceful means, often involving supranational entities. Through case studies like the Norway-Sweden union dissolution and the Schleswig-Holstein solution, the text illustrates the Nordic preference for negotiated resolutions underpinned by values of democracy, neutrality, and demilitarization. These principles not only solidify the Nordic Peace but also influence external relations and interactions within the region, showcasing a paradigm shift towards a comprehensive security community based on mutual respect and cooperation.
