Debunking Myths and Misconceptions in the Healthcare Sector: A ChatGPT-Powered Evaluation

This study examines the common beliefs and misunderstandings in the healthcare industry through an analysis of replies produced by OpenAI’s cutting-edge ChatGPT language model. Misinformation about health issues and medical procedures is now pervasive due to the internet and social media’s growing influence. This study assesses ChatGPT’s responses to vaccination in terms of their accuracy, lucidity, and comprehensiveness. The eight “myths and misconceptions” concerning vaccinations published by the World Health Organization were applied to ChatGPT’s premium (GPT-4.0) versions and free (GPT-3.5). The AI tool’s responses to the myths and misunderstandings supplied by the WHO were assessed qualitatively and statistically by two impartial expert raters. For both versions, there was a significant agreement among the raters (p of K < 0.05). 86.2% of the ChatGPT responses were accurate and easy to comprehend, while one question was misread. In terms of accuracy, lucidity, and comprehensiveness (∆ = 6.1%, 18.2%, and 9.8%, respectively), the ChatGPT-4.0 responses were qualitatively superior to the ChatGPT-3.5 responses. The study demonstrates that AI tools can be helpful assistance in the healthcare industry when properly questioned. This study looks at the myths and misconceptions that ChatGPT addresses in its answers to frequently asked questions about healthcare, analyses how it handles those questions, and talks about the implications for public health education and awareness.
