Advance Care Planning from Clinical Ethics Perspectives in Japan

Advance care planning (ACP) is a process that aims to provide healthcare in accordance with patients’ wishes and values, even after they have lost their decision-making capacity. Government-led ACP initiatives have been underway in Japan since 2018, and the Japanese interpretation of ACP is constantly evolving. This chapter provides an overview of ACP in Japan from the perspective of clinical ethics.
