Flood Zonation Using Geospatial Technology: A Case Study on Kopili River Basin, Assam

Along with global climate change, the deterioration of the natural environment has resulted in several disasters that have harmed human populations and property. In the Assam plains, flooding was one catastrophe that impacted settlement and agriculture, particularly during the monsoon. The Kopili River Basin, which is located in northeastern India, is one of the Brahmaputra River’s frequently flooded basins. Using geospatial technologies, this article makes an effort to map the flood zonation using several criteria. Several factors are considered, including soil, slope, elevation, drainage density, land use, and land cover. The opinions of public institutions and expert judgments were gathered in order to determine the relative relevance of the various elements in the analytical hierarchy process. The ArcGIS environment was used to process the collected map data. The area is split into four risk categories: extremely high, high, low, and shallow risk.
