The path to how humans came to know the universe had a birthday 13.7 BYA has been long and convoluted. Knowledge that the universe had an explosive beginning is based on modern day scientific theories and discoveries. These discoveries include the measurements leading to the Hubble Law in 1929, the accidental discovery of the CMB (Cosmic Microwave Background) in 1960, and the development of the SM (Standard Model) by particle physicists that led to the search and discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012.
