Qu Tongzu and Chinese Law and Society

Qu Tongzu (1910–), a native of Changsha, is a social historian and a sociologist of the law. He was named “Tongzu” (literally “like grandfather”) because he was born in the year of Gengxu like his grandfather, and as he was born on the sixth day of the sixth day of the lunar calendar, which was the Tianzhu Festival, he was also given the courtesy name Tianzhu (it was later changed to Tiankuang).
