Yan Xinzhe and His Research on Social Undertaking and the Rural Population

Yan Xinzhe (1898–1984), alias Rong Zhang, was a sociologist from Xiangtan, Hunan. In 1921, he went to the United States for studies at first the Los Altos High School and then the College of the Pacific in California. In 1923, he enrolled at the University of Southern California to study sociology and economics, and earned his master of arts degree from the school. Between 1928 and 1930, he taught sociology at Yenching University.
