Leonard S. Hsu and Outline of Population Theory

Leonard S. Hsu (1896–? also known as Xu Shilian) was born in Xiangtan, Hunan. He studied in the United States in his early years, and earned a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Iowa. He returned to China in 1924, and became a professor at Wuchang Normal University and a professor at the sociology department of Yenching University. In 1926, he was appointed head of the sociology department at Yenching University. In 1927, he founded the annual journal The Sociology World, of which he was editor-in-chief.
