Li Dazhao and the Sociology of Historical Materialism

Li Dazhao (1889–1927), courtesy name Shouchang, was born in Leting County in Hebei Province. He was a pioneer of the Chinese communist movement, a Marxist theorist and revolutionary, and a famous scholar. He began his studies at a countryside school at the age of seven, entered the Yongpingfu Middle School in 1905, and then the Beiyang College of Law and Politics in Tianjin in 1907.
