Economic Development Overview of the SCO Member Countries

In 2022, the total GDP of the SCO 9 countries was 24.7 trillion USD, accounting for 26.3% of the global GDP (Table 1.1). All SCO 9 countries are developing countries at different stages of industrialization, with significant differences and strong complementarity in industrial structure. Mining is an important pillar or engine of economic development for SCO member countries, with a total output value of 690 billion USD in 2022. The mining industries of Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan are the pillar industries of their economic development, with an average contribution of more than 8% to GDP over the past five years.
