Digitized Frequency Modulated Thermal Wave Imaging for the Titanium Implants

摘要

Active infrared thermography is a promising non-destructive testing (NDT) technique for the detection and characterization of structural flaws in solid materials. It offers distinct advantages like whole-field detection, quick response, non-contact, non-invasive, non-ionizing, and in-service testing capabilities. The current research work presents an aperiodic pulse compression favorable digitized frequency modulated thermal wave imaging (an active thermography) approach for subsurface features detection in the titanium alloy (Titanium Grade 5 (Ti–6Al–4V)). Here, we intended to overcome the shortcomings of existing techniques such as pulse thermography (PT) and lock-in thermography (LT). The resultant data obtained from the analytical and numerical analysis of flaw detection using this technique is then processed using the Fourier data analysis methodologies. The results obtained utilizing the provided scheme and data processing approaches clearly show improved evaluation abilities in terms of test resolution as well as sensitivity.
