Integration and Evaluation of Indigenous Linear Detector Array for Industrial Computed Tomography

Industrial Computed Tomography (ICT) is an imaging technique to generate cross-sectional image of test objects. ICT system broadly consists of X-ray generator, manipulator, X-ray detector with data acquisition module and reconstruction software. In an attempt to indigenise ICT system, a CdWO4 based prototype Linear Detector Array (LDA) with 640 pixels of 1mm width and 10mm depth has been recently fabricated at ED, BARC. This paper discusses the efforts in the development of the industrial fan beam computed tomography (IFBCT) system using this indigenous LDA. The integration of LDA with the x-ray system and manipulator through a software module and its evaluation have been described. The software has provision of detector calibration. The application provides options to set acquisition time, amplification factor and other CT parameters including speed, angular step size of the mechanical manipulator with encoder feedback. The module saves the acquired projection in an appropriate fan beam scheme using uncompressed 16 bits TIF format with metadata. A reconstructed CT image from the acquired data has been generated and demonstrated for evaluation.
