Coda: Legacies Established, Trajectories Forward

An activist’s life is devoted to the people and to the causes that are significant for the people with whom the activist identifies. “Servant of the people” is how Majola thinks of himself, an attitude that he appears to have absorbed from his days in the PAC (Pan Africanist Congress) youth league. The power to change their circumstances has to come from the communities themselves. “My role is to get them to understand that their conditions of life are not normal. They have become so used to not having, to enduring things that are not acceptable, that they feel they cannot demand change. My job is to get them to become aware of their own power to make change happen and to work with them to see that improvements occur in the townships” (in several interviews between 2020 and 2023, Majola has repeated this sentiment).
