摘要

Depression is a common illness that affects millions of people worldwide each year. Three hundred million people each year suffer greatly, as it can impact the mood, motivation, and productivity in various aspects of life. Whether it is trying to sleep, or keeping one’s hygiene in order, normal everyday tasks can seem so hard for individuals with depression. They can experience prolonged sadness, hopelessness, and thoughts of self-harm. If the individual’s depression is left untreated, it can lead to serious health consequences like suicide. While treatments for this disease do exist, social stigma and accessibility challenges remain. However, AI-based interventions, such as computer-assisted therapy and chat boxes, offer a cost-effective and more accessible solution. AI can also help detect signs of depression by analyzing social media data, aiding in targeted diagnoses. Exploring AI’s role in depression could lead to better healing and prevention of negative outcomes.
