Probiotics-Associated Extracellular Vesicles in Health and Diseases

Beneficial microbes with characteristic health benefit property attained the place in health management in recent time. These are probiotics, live therapeutics. Majority of them are bacterial probiotics. Origin of extracellular vesicles is known in bacterial population and likely among some probiotics. Probiotics are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) and are profusely used as functional food. The study of probiotics-derived EVs is still in infancy but has been growing rapidly during last decade. This chapter has introduced the basics of probiotic science and related development followed by isolation, characterization of EVs, and respective health ameliorating demonstrations using cell lines and animal models in different health conditions. Probiotic EVs exhibit immense potentials for its therapeutic applications in the near future.
