Lagrange’s Equation

There are two routes to Lagrange’s equation of motionLagrange’s equation of motion for dynamical systems. In one approach the result is achieved starting from Newton’s second law and in the other approach the equation is derived directly from Hamilton’s principleHamilton’s principle. Both the approaches belong to the domain of analytical mechanics and the vector approach is abandoned. The quantities are expressed in terms of the generalized coordinategeneralized coordinates and their derivatives only. In this section, the direct approach starting from Newton’s second law will be taken up.
