Transformation and Analysis of Petrol Engine into Ethanol Engine

摘要

The main aim of this experiment and analysis is to know the outcomes when ethanol is burned in the spark ignition engine and draw the comparison between the ethanol and gasoline blends and E100 effects on engine performance. The engine performance was measured at various conditions on operating engine. The outcomes will be discussed in terms of different aspects regarding different loads and notify the different output effects along with the comparison between blends of ethanol and gasoline at different ratios and E100, it will be seen that the brake power will slightly increase with increase in the percentage of ethanol. Even for the thermal efficiency it is seen that the gasoline or the blended fuels have lower BTE than E100. It is also notified that the brake specific fuel consumption is also high as compared to the gasoline as well as exhaust gas temperature also decreases when compared with gasoline. But the fuel consumption of E100 is more than the gasoline fuel, this is because the energy per unit volume of gasoline fuel is higher than the ethanol. Similarly due to the ethanol having higher-octane number it may be seen that power output is increased along with the economy of high purity ethanol in comparison to other flexi-fuel engines. The current gasoline engines may have fuel efficiency less or equal to the ethanol since it requires higher compression ratio. This paper will touch the points of impact on the desired spark ignition engine when some changes are done of the required burning of the fuels like change in compression ratios, injection timing, valve actuation whose effects on emissions and performance of the engine are suitable for pure ethanol. Further discussion of results and outcomes are described ahead in detail providing a brief idea for new engines dedicated for development.
