Enhancing Air Quality in Smoking Zones: Innovative Filtration System for Harmful Particle and VOC Removal

The objective of this research work is to develop an air filtration system specifically designed for smoking zones, focusing on ensuring the safety of nonsmokers who may inadvertently inhale harmful tobacco smoke. For that, an experimental setup is fabricated and installed in a laboratory at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida, India. The average temperature increases by 0.6 °C, 0.7 °C, and 1.1 °C at mass flow rates of 0.488 kg/s, 0.570 kg/s, and 0.700 kg/s, respectively. The average moisture decreases by 1.8%, 1.6%, and 1.4% at mass flow rates of 0.488 kg/s, 0.570 kg/s, and 0.700 kg/s, respectively. Initially, the value of AQI is 6, and after passing through the system, the value of AQI is 2 at a mass flow of 0.700 kg/s. This reflects the performance of the air filtration system. The experimental research work conducted on the air filtration system for smoking areas has yielded promising results. This system helps to clean the air while maintaining the moisture content in the air for the comfortability of humans. The long-term stability of the system and its low energy consumption make it a practical and sustainable solution.
