摘要

In this paper, we designed, studied and analysed different designs to enhance the aerodynamic performance of a commercial truck by appending various add-on devices. Autodesk Fusion 360 3D designing and modelling software was used for developing the design of the TATA LPT 1512 truck. Aerodynamic devices such as deflectors, flaps and side skirts, were appended in this model to observe and analyse their impact on vehicle drag. They were first modelled and added to the truck, after which a comprehensive analysis was carried out through CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). It was performed on the online platform based on OpenFOAM called SIMSCALE using the RANS k-omega SST mathematical model. The changes in drag were recorded. We recorded a total of 24.5% reduction in drag and a 52% increase in downforce through our studies. The reduction in drag resulted in a significant saving of 14.8 Gigajoules per year in the described model of truck with usage mentioned.
