University Learning Experience Between Physical and Virtual Environments, an Analysis from the Post-pandemic Context

The health emergency stemming from the SARS-CoV-2 virus had significant impacts on society, including the university education sector. In Mexico, as in numerous countries, there was a swift transition from in-person classes to remote learning, a sudden shift that caught everyone involved off guard and exposed various difficulties, shortcomings, and needs. Two years after returning to in-person classes, a comparative analysis was conducted on the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of the learning process between in-person and remote teaching, from the perspective of students at a university in Mexico. For this purpose, a descriptive quantitative approach was adopted, using a non-probabilistic convenience sampling method and employing a survey as the main tool. The results obtained reveal benefits in both modalities; however, participants emphasize that in-person teaching offers more favorable conditions for the teaching–learning process. From a forward-looking perspective, the importance of carefully implementing a hybrid model is highlighted with the aim of enhancing the quality of university education.
