Examining Competency Alignment: A Scholarly Approach to Engineering Practice Scripts

A laboratory practice script, as an essential tool in educational laboratory teaching, acts as the main guide for the student, providing comprehensive support to maximize their experience in the practical environment. Despite its valuable role, there has been an underrepresentation in specialized literature focusing on innovation and teaching quality. This chapter introduces a comprehensive analysis and systematic review of various practice scripts in some courses on computer science across different engineering degrees. Its objective is to generate a taxonomy that identifies and evaluates its fundamental elements, reflecting on their relevance in achieving a wide range of educational goals. The results obtained highlight the relative importance of different types of activities outlined in these scripts, aimed at achieving specific levels of competence in the corresponding subjects.
