In Japan, the prevalence of osteoarthritis of the hip is 1.0–4.3%, according to the guidelines for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the hip [1]. A small number of patients have bilateral hip disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteonecrosis. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most effective surgical procedures in orthopedics; hence, the demand for bilateral THA is increasing.
