Traumatic Arthropathy

Acetabular fractures can cause traumatic arthropathy in the early stages if the displacement of the weight bearing dome remains, and currently, the results have improved by accurate reduction and stable fixation by surgery. However, traumatic arthropathy still occurs in approximately 17.6–20% of patients. The main causes of traumatic arthropathy are the severity of the fracture, poor reduction, femoral head injury, and femoral head avascular necrosis. In addition, traumatic arthropathy often occurs in femoral head fractures due to inadequate reduction by comminution and complications of femoral head avascular necrosis. In patients with advanced traumatic arthropathy, joint replacement is an effective treatment for pain relief and functional recovery.
