Bone Remodeling and Stress Shielding

摘要

Stable long-term results after THA using cementless stems have been reported. They depend on how the skeleton adapts mechanically to load transfer following implant insertion [1]. Irregular load transfer patterns are detrimental to bone remodeling and are referred to as stress shielding (SS), which can cause bone resorption around the implant and lead to implant failure, making revision difficult [2]. However, it is not clear whether changes in bone resorption are associated with clinical symptoms and complications.
