摘要

Favorable long-term results with cemented polished tapered stems have been clinically proven and theoretically supported [1]. Although the advantages of cemented stems include excellent long-term results, shape compatibility, and flexible applicability to all types of femurs, some changes, such as proximal femoral bone atrophy, cortical thinning, and trabecular ossification of the bone-cement interface, have been observed in many cases due to mechanical environment changes after long-term use. In addition, we were dissatisfied with existing polished taper stems owing to the lack of size variations and instrumentations, leading to the development of a new type of implant in April, 2002.
