摘要

Since the advent of applying inertial sensors from an assortment of commercial applications to the biomedical domain pertaining to healthcare, these wearable and wireless systems have evolved considerably. In particular, these recent evolutions for wearable and wireless inertial sensor systems are now contextually specific to biomedical applications. There are multiple notable trends emerging for these wearable and wireless systems, such as conformal characteristics, further miniaturization, and localized wireless connectivity. Additionally, some of these wearables have achieved FDA certification, which establishes these devices for the acquisition of medical grade data. These evolutionary developments facilitate a pathway for the additional application possibilities for aspects of the biomedical domain, such as gait analysis, homebound therapy, and quantifiable exercise.
