Symmetry

Symmetry appears everywhere. It is often related to a sense of harmonious, order, pattern, beautiful proportion, and balance. The human body is symmetric, left and right of bilateral halves against the sagittal plane. The Vitruvian Man by Leonardo da Vinci describes the symmetry of a human body. Butterfly, fish, and birds represent the symmetry in biology. People created symmetric artifacts, arts, and buildings in civilization. The ancient clay jars were rotational symmetric; the Arabic carpets and rags have translational and glide symmetric patterns; the fine Chinese-style windowpane is radial symmetric. The great buildings like Taj Mahal and the Forbidden City are reflectional symmetric. We are surprised about the symmetry in snowflakes; every one is unique but follows the same hexagon symmetric pattern. When stepping into the garden in spring, we see all kinds of the beautiful flowers with radial symmetry, while in the woods in autumn, the matured fruits, spikes, and the colorful leaves demonstrate an amazing canvas in the language of symmetry.
