Food Waste Issues and Food Safety and Quality

Food wastes are usually formed at different stages of the food supply chain, from agricultural production to final consumption. Food waste production depends on each country’s socioeconomic characteristics. Globally, food waste is produced from a third of the food generated globally and intended for human consumption, estimated at more than 1 billion tons annually. This annual quantity is predicted to increase over time due to the influence of several factors. Poorly designed management and non-rationalized food waste processing can also generate and contribute to several environmental, social, and economic problems connected to food waste. These effects will affect the environment, lives, and existence on Earth. This chapter provides an excellent tool to achieve the installation and implementation of a sustainable strategy and rationalized management for reducing the production flow of food waste and taking part in protecting our planet. It is a trend tool to show the different issues of food waste and the solutions adopted by governments and municipalities on our planet.
