Diseases Transmitted to Humans through Foodborne Microbes in the Global South
摘要
Microbial foodborne diseases continue to be a major public health challenge in the Global South, affecting millions of individuals annually. The high prevalence of these diseases is closely linked to factors such as inadequate sanitation, limited access to clean water, and poor food-handling practices. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of microbial foodborne diseases prevalent in the Global South, highlighting their epidemiology, causative agents, clinical manifestations, and preventive measures. In the Global South, factors such as limited access to clean water, poor sanitation, inadequate food-handling practices, and resource constraints contribute to the high incidence of foodborne illnesses. Preventing these illnesses requires a multifaceted approach, which includes improved hygiene education, sanitation infrastructure, vaccination, and food safety regulations. Efforts to combat these diseases are essential for improving the overall health and well-being of communities in the Global South.
