Methods: Designing Iconographic Research Poetry

In this chapter, the author provides a detailed description of the methods that can be used to create and design iconographic research poetry. After exploring the paradigms that inform iconographic research poetry, she offers a step-by-step description of analytic strategies that researchers can use to generate iconographic research poetry from qualitative data. Drawing from the extant literature in qualitative analysis, research poetry, and concrete and iconographic poetry, the author explicates the processes by which qualitative researchers can represent data in the form of iconographic research poetry. She presents three exemplars to illustrate the techniques that she describes. The author concludes the chapter by offering writing exercises designed to encourage readers to experiment with iconographic research poetry.
