摘要

There is a critical need to pay attention to and implement effective mitigation methods for the global warming crisis. In this chapter, we review many marine photosynthetic organisms known as brown algae and their potential role in slowing climate change. The amazing carbon absorption capacities and potential to offset greenhouse gas emissions of brown algae have attracted a lot of attention. This chapter takes a look at the planet’s current predicament due to global warming. The ecological importance of brown algae is discussed afterward, with special attention paid to their remarkable characteristics including strong carbon fixation capacities and fast growth rates. Furthermore, the chapter investigates the many ways in which brown algae can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These methods include carbon sequestration via photosynthesis and the use of harvested biomass for carbon storage. The possible difficulties and restrictions of using brown algae on a massive scale as a mitigation strategy are also discussed. Challenges lie in areas such as technological feasibility, financial viability, and potential effects on marine ecosystems. In addition, the chapter covers the latest findings and developing technology for maximizing carbon sequestration in brown algae during its culture, harvesting, and application. This chapter’s overarching goal is to provide a more nuanced picture of brown algae’s possible involvement in mitigating global warming and to highlight the need for additional study and development in this area. To counteract global warming and secure a better future for our world, harnessing the power of brown algae could pave the way for sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions.
