Nutraceutical Formulations from Medicinal Plants: A Potential Therapeutic Agent

摘要

The rising health concerns within contemporary population have significantly contributed to the growing acceptance of various nutraceutical products and functional foods. Recent market trends and innovative research endeavours have further intensified the focus on nutraceutical, driving the development of wide range of products that provides diverse health benefits. Leveraging the power of medicinal and herbal plants as valuable resources for nutraceutical development has gained momentum. These plants have been integral to traditional knowledge systems throughout history. Scientific studies over several decades revealed presence of various bioactive compounds mostly polyphenolics that are responsible for different health-promoting effects. When it comes to nutraceutical formulations, herbal extracts find utility in various forms like powders, pills, tablets, capsules and blended juices, tailored to specific applications. Additionally, herbal-infused products like soap, toothpaste, beverages and body oil have seamlessly integrated into our daily routines. Extensive research works are on track for development, improvement, modification and quality control of the herbal nutraceutical products. In light of this landscape, the present article was formulated addressing the role of phytochemicals as potential nutraceutical agents, different herbal formulations and their therapeutic potential along with the market landscape, the regulations, challenges and future prospects in a lucid way as possible.
