Acoustic Observation of Rocket Triggered Lightning Flashes

Natural lightning is an intense, instantaneous discharge process that generates multiple physical radiations, such as sound, light, and electromagnetic waves. Thunder results from acoustic energy emission associated with lightning discharge, which forms shock waves and attenuates into a sound pressure wave during propagation (Cai et al. in J Geophys Res: Atmospheres, 126(11):e2020JD033774 (2021); Radio Sci 44:127–135).
