摘要

Based on the study of available research publications, it is noticed that a limited work is reported on experimental investigation of oil film temperature distribution and oil flow rate for herringbone-grooved journal bearing (HGJB). In this regard, the present work deals with the experimental measurement of aforesaid parameters for plane journal bearing (PJB) and symmetric HGJB, particularly for light load conditions. To accomplish these objectives, an experimental test rig is designed and manufactured. Moreover, an in-house data acquisition system is developed to acquire the data from the temperature sensors. Effect of operating load and the speed conditions on the oil film temperature distribution and end flow rate for the bearings are studied. The experimental results indicate that as compared to PJB, HGJB shows higher values of oil film temperature and significantly less oil flow rate, for a given operating conditions. Furthermore, the experimental result revels that the symmetric HGJB does not function satisfactorily under reverse direction of journal speed.
