Characteristics of Arc Discharge in Transformer Oil

Internal short-circuit fault of the transformer may cause high-energy arc discharge in the oil, resulting in deformation rupture of the oil tank. As the energy source of transformer explosion accident, arc discharge will decompose the surrounding insulating oil and form bubbles around the arc, resulting in increased pressure in the tank. In this paper, an experimental platform of high energy arc discharge in transformer oil was set up, and electrical measurement, pressure measurement and optical imaging of discharge arc were carried out. The basic characteristics of arc discharge in transformer oil were revealed, including arc resistance model, arc gas production characteristics and pressure characteristics. It laid a foundation for subsequent research on oil tank deformation and explosion pressure relief measures.
