Sleepless in China: Linguistic Investment and a Burden of Perfectionism

In the previous chapter, I examined the African international studentsAfrican international students’ ChineseChinese languageChinese language ideologies reflected in their language choicechoice and social (re)production strategies. I analysed and interpreted the ways in China’s positionposition in the global political-economic hierarchy relative to African nation-states has influenced the participants’ perceptions of China and the valuevalue of the Chinese language.
