The study of natural products in plants has been revolutionized by “in silico” approaches, combining advanced computational methods with traditional botanical study. This interdisciplinary field focuses on identifying, characterizing, and analyzing the diverse array of compounds produced by plants, which often have medicinal, agricultural, or ecological significance. The advent of in silico techniques, such as molecular docking, virtual screening, and computational phytochemical analysis, has enabled scientists to predict the interaction of plant-derived compounds with various biological targets, thereby elucidating their potential therapeutic properties or toxicological risks. The integration of bioinformatics, cheminformatics, and genomics has further enhanced the ability to map the biosynthetic pathways of these natural products, offering insights into their synthesis and regulation within plant systems. This has significant implications for drug discovery, as in silico methods can rapidly and cost-effectively screen vast libraries of plant compounds for potential pharmacological activity.
