Synthetic Biology of Plants-Derived Medicinal Natural Products
摘要
The potential therapeutic role of medicinal plants and natural products attracts scientific attention, and this role is justified due to the presence of plant-based natural products (PNPs). These PNPs are abundant in phenylpropanoids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and vitamins which counter balance the oxidative stress and free radicals linked with chronic diseases. These natural products are basically bioactive metabolites that are less toxic, more effective with several biological functions and are major source of medications, food additives, and novel biofuels. Synthetic biology has made plant natural products innovative, sustainable, and environmentally beneficial so that these can be transformed into potent drugs. Synthetic biology involves blending of the engineering concepts with metabolic pathways which creates bridge between the genetically coded biosynthetic pathway of natural product and their regulation. So, as to increase the production of bioactive compounds, various biosynthetic pathway involved can be re-engineered. In this chapter, we have discussed about interaction of synthetic biology with biosynthetic pathway and their mutual benefits.
