Inclusive Management and Neighborhood Empowerment

In this chapter, we discuss the social contribution of inclusive property management and placemaking in nurturing neighborhood empowerment, social capital, environmental sustainability and community wellbeing from multiple theoretical frameworks. In Hong Kong, the placemaking of inclusive housing management can nurture innovative neighborhoods where a range of residential, commercial, landscaping, artistic and civic functions coexist in close proximity coupled with people-oriented services, convenient facilities and attractive local features to create vibrant conditions, in which diverse people interact and engage to produce rich social experiences and new ideas, making the neighborhood urban environment a greener, happier and more humane community. Inclusive housing management in Hong Kong provides a good example of how we can build a neighborhood community that is empowering and cohesive. The role of housing management services in neighborhoods is indispensable, particularly in creating lovable homes, building social capital, promoting social engagement, fostering a sense of belonging, creating liveable communities and protecting health.
