The Repositioning of Professional Housing Management: Community Wellbeing and Social Sustainability

In this chapter, we call for repositioning housing management at the center of social and community wellbeing. Various social factors, including licensing regulation, affecting the changing orientation of housing management practices are identified for in-depth analysis. We argue that there is a need for recognition of the power of inclusive housing management practice as a “value-oriented” management practice and social force in enhancing social sustainability and liveability, combating social exclusion, inspiring, empowering, supporting the local community and improving the quality of life in urban neighborhoods and the built environment for better individual development, community wellbeing and positive social change. We highlight the significant role of housing management sectors in promoting liveability, safety and health, social wellbeing, social capital, community building, social engagement, environmental sustainability and urban modernity.
