Concept of Sustainable Livelihood: A Case Study of Laika Dadhiya Forest Village, Tinsukia, Assam

Humans have been rapidly altering their interactions with the environment, a transformation that continues unabated. While the reciprocal influence between nature and humanity exists, it is ultimately nature that dictates the extent and manner of human activity. This underscores the prevalence of natural determinism. The world's population is burgeoning, and the scientific and technological revolution has accelerated developmental activities to the extent that they now pose a significant threat to the natural environment in some regions. This research aims to delve into consequential interactions between humans and their environment. One prominent example is the renowned Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, a habitat for migrating birds, wild horses, buffalo, and white-winged ducks. Situated within the low-lying active floodplain zone between the Brahmaputra and Dibru Rivers, the entire park faces unique challenges. Our study investigates the relationship between humans and the forest community within this context, as well as the impact of human actions on the forest and the corresponding adjustments made. Additionally, we explore how the habitat area expands due to the government's transparent strategy for delineating it and the park's conservation efforts, responding to the increasing population. Using both sample data and direct observations, we analyze how humans interact with and adapt to their environment. This study provides valuable insights into the complex interplay between humanity and the natural world within the forest community of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park.
