Elastomeric-Based Composite Materials for Engineering Applications
摘要
Due to its unique combination of flexibility, durability, and better mechanical qualities, elastomeric-based composite materials have garnered a great deal of interest. This chapter provides an in-depth analysis of composites based on elastomers, exploring their many uses in many industries. An introduction to elastomeric materials and their numerous technical uses is given at the outset of the chapter. Then the section delves into the characteristics and types of elastomers often used in composites, with a focus on their chemical, mechanical, and thermal capabilities. Improving elastomeric composites’ performance attributes relies heavily on using reinforcing materials. Fibres, fillers, and nanoparticles are just a few of the reinforcing elements investigated in this chapter, along with their effects on composite properties as a whole. Calendaring, rubber mixing, and moulding are some of the unique production operations that are examined in this study, which focuses on elastomeric composites. Elastomeric composites’ thermal and electrical conductivity qualities are further explored in the chapter, which delves into useful measurement techniques and the many applications that can benefit from these features. Also covered in this chapter are the many technological uses of elastomer composites in fields as diverse as automotive, biomedical, aerospace, and sports. The capacity of these materials to efficiently meet the unique requirements of different industries is their most prominent feature. In its last section, the chapter explores future directions and challenges in the field, providing readers with a glimpse into emerging research areas and potential advancements. This phenomenon encourages further research and development in the field of engineering applications involving elastomeric-based composite materials.
