Optimizing the EDFA Gain for Optical WDM Network Using Simulation Method
摘要
The amazing increase in use of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is found due to the demand of high capacity and highly efficient telecommunication systems. Dispersion is one of the major issues in degrading the performance of WDM system. The use of the erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is the most common method to enhance the performance of WDM system. In this paper the effect of pumping power on the output by varying the EDFA core radius and erbium-doped radius in a 16 channel WDM system has been analyzed in terms of total power, signal power, and noise power. Pumping power is evaluated using signal power output, total power output, and noise power output for different values of Er doping Radius. From the results it has been concluded that the precise selection of core radius and erbium-doped radius can give high improvement in the performance of the system. Also, the performance of the system is enhanced, as we increased pumping power.
