Makerspaces and the Position of T in STEM

This chapter will argue that making activities in Makerspaces have the potential to clarify and enhancing the position of Technology education in STEM Education. Making is at the heart of Technology education with its own pedagogical value, but it also can contribute to the learning of other STEM subjects (and even beyond those). The nature of making and the different types of relations between Makerspaces and schools will be discussed to show that this potential is not realized ‘automatically’. This relationship needs to fulfil certain requirements to lead to the realization of that potential.
