STEM in Senior Secondary

  • Joachim Svärd

摘要

A trend in tertiary engineering education is interdisciplinary education targeting real-world problems. This chapter will advise why senior secondary schools should pick up on this, giving their students a head start, and at the same time having teachers more likely to stay in teaching. Implementing STEM Education projects at a school is not the most accessible road to travel. Six significant areas that affect schools and teachers are: The individual subjects have Standards that need to be met, there are not enough teachers with the right Qualifications, Teachers don’t have Knowledge about other subject matters, design of a STEM education project at an appropriate level is challenging, teachers are not used to Cooperation, and there is often little Time for planning. These challenges are manageable, and it is often up to the technology teacher to initiate such cooperation. This chapter will discuss these issues.
