STEM Projects: Outside of the Curriculum

Taiwan is one of the highly developed economies, with many important multinational corporations that influencing technological developments, and has attached great importance to technology education. STEM education has been a pivotal learning area in the latest technology education curriculum in Taiwan. In recent years, STEM education has not only been increasingly emphasized in formal education, but also in informal education. Opportunities for informal STEM learning experiences are rapidly expanding in Taiwan. This chapter will center on discussing the relevant findings, to examine the characteristics and values of the STEM projects in informal education. Meanwhile, this chapter will also consolidate and summarize past research and critical online resources, to discuss and analyze several types and examples of STEM projects in informal education. Moreover, the advantages and issues of STEM projects in informal education will be studied in the chapter as well, for the purpose of evaluating the status of STEM projects in informal education. Specific conclusions and future suggestions on STEM projects in informal education will be drawn upon the discussion.
